Philosophy

The child is a unique and dynamic individual, created in the image and likeness of God. He is a whole person with a body, mind and soul, which needs to be nurtured with care. He is endowed with gifts and abilities, which develop through sequential stages. At each stage, changes occur in these areas of growth – physical, cognitive, social, emotional and spiritual. Because each child is a unique person, he has his own inner “clock” pattern of growth, influenced by his individual personality, learning style and family background. His development should not be compared with those of other students. Every child is born with, at least, one intelligence, while other children may possess multiple intelligences. These intelligences may be language-related, object-related or person-related.

The child does not need to be forced to learn. He is motivated by his own desire to make sense of his world. He learns by DOING. The work Froebel, Montessori, Piaget and other child development theorists and researchers have demonstrated that learning is a complex process that results from the interaction between child’s thoughts and experiences with the materials, ideas and people. These experiences should match the child’s developing abilities while also challenging the child’s interests and understanding.

The role of the school is to facilitate the learning process. The teacher, in particular, plans a developmentally appropriate, well-integrated curriculum which provides learning activities in all areas of the child’s development, through an integrated approach. In practical terms, the curriculum is designed for the age group served and implemented with attention to the needs and differences of individual children in the group, based on teacher’s observations. The teacher prepared the environment by providing a variety of activities and materials for the child to learn through active exploration and interaction with other children and the teacher. These learning activities should be concrete, real and relevant to the child, enhance his self-esteem and cultivate positive feeling towards learning.

The teacher is more a facilitator of learning rather than a dispenser of information. The teacher also works in partnership with the parents, communicating regularly to build mutual understanding in greater consistency in the training up of their child.
